The question I’m asked most often by people is:
“Why did you join the police?”
It’s never been an easy question to answer; not because I don’t know but because it can be difficult to articulate. Joining the police simply felt like the right thing to do. With so many challenges facing society I knew I could have a direct and immediate positive impact on people’s lives. I’ve loved every minute of it.
I must admit though that I never anticipated the positive impact joining would have on me. I’ve made life-long friends; the type of friend who you grow to rely on to be there for you at the scene of an emergency becomes a friend for life.
We are currently asking for expressions of interest from members of our communities to join Cleveland Police and make a difference to the community. We anticipate that we might need up to 100 further officers over the course of the next 12 months. You could be one of them……
Do you want to make society better? Safeguard the vulnerable? Jump out of bed everyday knowing you’ll make a difference to people’s lives? If the answer is ‘yes’ (and who wouldn’t say ‘yes’?!) then I’d urge you to express an interest in joining Cleveland Police.
Clicking here will take you to our website where you can fill in your details. Doing so will change your life forever and you’ll enjoy every minute of it.
By joining on our Police Constable Degree Apprenticeship (PCDA) you’ll earn a degree from Teesside University as you work as a police officer. That’s a rare offer – a degree paid for by your employer.
In an attempt to ensure we draw as many expressions of interest from as diverse a field as possible, we try and be innovative in our approach to adverts. This short advert was allegedly posted early in the 20th century by the great explorer Ernest Shackleton in The Times when looking for crew-mates for his ‘Endurance’ expedition to the Antarctic:
It is claimed that thousands responded to him wanting to be part of the journey; it is hailed as a masterful example of an advert.
Whilst not in Shackleton’s class, here is what I would place in an equally short advert to join Cleveland Police:
Of course, these days, we have other means of sharing a message and I’m proud of the video we commissioned in 2020 to showcase some of our work in this extraordinary organisation – you can see it below.
It is an honour to work for Cleveland Police and it’s a competitive process. Some of the values we’re looking for in our employees include integrity, service, compassion and determination.
People with those values exist in every walk of life and we need people from all walks of life here at Cleveland Police regardless of who you are, which God (if any) you worship, who you choose to love or where you’re from. Our diversity makes us strong and my interest lies in those values I mentioned.
Answer this call and you’ll enjoy every second.
As we say where I’m from: “Mewn undod mae nerth / In unity there is strength”
